First Past The Undemocratic Post

Is it really a fair system when an MP can be elected with only 42.5% of the vote? That means, of course, that 57.5% didn't want him but someone else. But our electoral system doesn't work like that. He wins not because he has a majority but simply the highest individual count of votes. They can be the same thing but not always. With an electoral system like this and hope of change blown out of the water, I have to wonder if there will be much point voting in future general elections. Maybe I'll feel differently when the next one comes around but at the moment I don't see myself making the effort. It's four years off, though, so we'll see.
